The Proposal

The Proposal...

Date: 30 January 2008
Time: Around 12.30p.m.
Where: At my work place

Description:
Well, I was rather shock as I was all ready to go for my meeting after lunch. I was also late, that's why I was rushing for time. So all of a sudden I saw him standing there, hidden by colleagues' cubicles, with a bouquet of flowers and the mini box in his other hand. He smiled at me and said surprise. Yes I was surprised! But I was to rush to react and though touched by his actions, couldn't feel the 'touchiness' at that moment. haha... I asked him why he comes at that timing and he said he thought that I'm supposed to have my lunch according to my personal time-table which I pasted in front of my work station at home. He thought that my colleagues would be around to witness that too. But bad timing, all my other colleagues had gone to the meeting room and I'm running late!! (though they did see him with the flowers coming into the office and wondering what's the ocassion and pressing for me to tell them after I went to the meeting room... haha...) So then I told him that I'm running late already and I forgot how he reacted. I guess he just kept saying he don't know. So I told him why didn't he kneel down. He can still say don't want cos he's embarrassed. Hmmph!! Of course I insisted one more time. He then kneel down. Waiting for him to pop the question but there was silence for 1sec. So I told him exactly, "You must pop the question the leh." haha... silly him then asked me if I want to marry him. Of course I agreed. Then he passed me the box. Aiyo... I told him to put in on for me. That was then he realised and put the ring on for me. Men can be so silly yet cute as times... haha... After all that which took less than 10minutes, I needed to go for my meeting. Kissed him goodbye and he left. When I went to the meeting room, my colleagues were saying he should have come into the meeting room and have everyone to witness it instead. Well then it struck me, ya hor, he should have done that mah... But well, it was too late. Zann was also telling me that he was doing great already as not all men have the courage to propose in front of so many people and not forgetting he did pluck out his courage and effort to do that when it's just that the timing wasn't right. I know, I know, but women just want what is best and memorable mah. haha... ok ok, so in the end yes, it's still the same proposal, unchanged, comical, pressing for time, less than 10min, but still of his best effort, making me even clearer this time that he's the one. (^_^) That night, we went for dinner. Though just a simple dinner, but the happiness is within...

The Preparation

ALL ABOUT THE PREPARATION

Source for the AUSPICIOUS date!
Date: 31 December 2007
Time: Around 4p.m.
Where: Fu Lu Shou Complex

Description:
Beeie and I went to Fu Lu Shou Complex in search of this famous so called fortune teller to get our auspicious date for our ROM day. Initially, I thought we can just choose any date for our ROM since it's not our customary day, but Beeie insisted so I complied to it. Anyway, after we reached there, the shop was closed. (Apparently, he has his own office and had many pictures taken with important people of Singapore too) Then we realised we needed to make appointment in order to see him. (By the way, this guy was introduced to us by Beeie's friend who came to him for their customary dates) So we made the call and was told to come back in 3hrs time. By then Beeie needed to go back to the office first while I shoppped around at Bugis. By the time we saw him, it was already 4plus. I was totally fascinated with all the calculations made by computer (in the past they used to use abacus and fingers) and I underestimated the choice of dates as they still need to take into consideration our parents' birth year so as not to 'crash' with their health and other stuff like that. At the end of it, we were given 3 best dates according to him. 1 in March, 1 in May and 1 in June. Of course, I chose the 1 in March cos I always wanted it to be earlier. Beeie agreed as for the dates in May and June are weekdays and it will be very troublesome for some of our family members, including ourselves. So we decided 23 March 2008 as it is a Sunday and we decided to get the solemniser out as ROM will be closed on Sundays.

Source for the Proposal Ring
Date: 12 January 2008
Time: Around 1p.m.

Description:
Sourcing for the proposal ring wasn't a simple job at all. Of course in Beeie's case. He needs to know all about diamonds before he approaches any shops to check out the price and stuff like that. He did alot of homework online and approaching his friends who have gotten married and bought their proposal rings for their partner. He also asked alot of questions from his friend who used to work for a local jewellery shop. He searched many local jewellery shops for the ring of my requirements. After all that, he came to me for a serious discussion. He told me that the requirements that I wanted was far too expensive for him to get it in such a short notice. Well, apparently for my requirements the price ranges from 10k to 15k per ring. Well, I was surprised as I didn't think that it would be so expensive. So we talked about it. Initially he was saying why not get a half carat first and later next year he will then upgrade it to a 1carat for me. It sounds nice and compromising enough. However, I wouldn't want to upgrade a proposal ring as it will then be meaningless for a proposal ring. I told him I will give it a thought and this went for about a week. It so happened that within the week itself, my colleague knew about getting a ring, she introduced her aunty who happened to be a private jeweller and she encouraged me to get a 1 off diamond from her and later on put it into a setting that I like as that will be more worth it. She also told me that she can offer a better price as compared to those jewllery shop out there. Therefore I told Beeie about it and he went to take a look. Unfortunately, the price range for my requirements still ranges from 10k to 12k. Not much of difference I thought. In the end, after talking to Mimi about this, she did enlighten me alot. She told me that Sean is very compromising enough to get what I wanted all my life. Which guy will ever get a proposal ring with the girlfriend putting rules and regulations everywhere? After talking to her, it does give me a better light that Beeie is trying his best to always give me what I wanted in life. Though not perfect, but at least his efforts are there. This makes me clear that he is the right man to marry. (Though he has his other imperfection, too which I do not want to mention as it is a long list... keke...) Well, my final decision for him is to settle for a 0.7 to 0.8carat, ranging from D to F colour, brilliant cut and from vs1 to vs2. So yes, he finally bought me that ring within the requirements which I gave him.

Source for the Hotel
Where: Orchard Hotel

Description:
Like I mention previously, we wanted a simple affair, a meal with both families and thats all. Initially, we wanted to invite the solemniser to our place and then after that we will go out for lunch. As our auspicious time is to ROM before 1p.m., lunch after that will be the best choice. Then when I told Mimi and gang about my big news, they got even more excited than me. haha... Ting was talking about the gate crashing already and Mmi got very excited and that's where I get this gorgeous blog to blog about the journey to my big stage of life. KBH offered to do chair covers and other deco stuff for me if I have the ROM at home. When I told them that I will just go for lunch with the immediate family without inviting them, they were so disappointed! They even say they don't need a seat, they don't need lunch, they just want to be present at my big day. I was really touched that they wanted to share my joy so much. Can't really describe the happiness within me. In fact, after sharing the big news with all my family members, close friends and colleagues, all of them were really happy for me! I can sense all their blessings for me already. Of course the happiest person is Beeie loh. haha... Of course I'm estatic too!! (^_^) Anyway, I told Beeie about what Mimi gang said and we talked about catering to our place, going to clubhouses or even the community club to have our solemnisation. In the end, since we had time for preparation, we decided to settle at a hotel for a private function room for our ROM day then. I was the 1 who sourced for the hotels online. We went to many of them to check out the place and rates too. That was when in the end we settled down with Orchard Hotel after comparing all the other venues, rates and accessibilty. Orchard Hotel was famous for their award winning menu and the service which we gotten from the organiser was also a pleasant experience. She tried her means to satisfy all our special requests. The package also includes a stay at the hotel and morning breakfast. Above all, I felt that the rate which they offered was fair too. Plus it's in town, so accessibility won't be a big problem. So that's it, we placed our deposit and now waiting for the day to arrive for us to check in.

Source for the Wedding Bands
Date: 12 January 2008
Time: Around 3p.m.
Where: Cartier at Takashimaya

Description:
Buying Cartier as our wedding band was my idea. I've always liked the design and the meaningful message which the rings are designed for. Yes and my close friends know that I like buying branded stuff, so probably that is also 1 reason why I want to settle for that brand. Initially, I was also considering Tiffany or Bulgari. But after shoppping for nice designs, I still feel Cartier has the best wedding band designs. (and of course with all the meaningful messages attached to it) So as posted by Mimi previously, that were the 2 rings which we're going to wear for the rest of our lives.

Source for the Solemniser
Date: 20 January 2008
Time: 7.30p.m.
Where: Casuarina Cove

Description:
Beeie was the one to source for the solemniser. We were lucky to get Mrs. Chia as our solemniser as she was very professional as compared to those whom we had seen at different solemnisations or feedback which we've gotten from our close friends. Therefore we went ahead to meet her at the function room of her condo. We were surprised that there were many couples who had seek her as a solemniser and then we knew that somehow she was quite a demand. Well, this also concludes that getting her was a right choice. The briefing last for about 90minutes and was a very informative and fun one.

Source for the ROM dress
Date: 19 January 2008
Time: Around 2p.m.
Where: The Wedding Present

Description:
I went through quite alot of magazines to look at the designs and all, thinking of getting an off-the-rack dress. Initially, I wanted to do my own makeup and hair, get friends to take pictures for us, etc... Somehow, things got more and more complicated as I started to want more things. Well, I just want it to be a perfect and memorable one. I guess all women are like that. So anyway, as I was saying, so I got to The Wedding Present (again introduced by my colleague), in the end, making a made-to-measure dress and since the package comes with makeup, hairstyling and bouquet of flowers for my ROM day, it made me easier as I don't have to source for makeup artists for that day. I will be going for my fitting soon then.

Source for Photographer & Invitation Cards
Description:
This wasn't a problem as Beeie works at a printing firm and he has contacts with freelance photographers so he will source for that then.

Source for Shoes and Accessories
Description:
Well, yet to find 1... I went to Aldo the other day, hoping to get white heels with some crystals on it, but I couldn't find a nice design. Still have to search around then.

Source for Men's Suit
Description:
Beeie says he's going to tailor-made his. I guess for guys it's less of a chore as compared to women.

The Follow Up

The Follow Up
Date: 29 December 2007
Time: Night

Description:
After mentioning about our decision in the day, we decided to really sit down and have a talk about the whole thing. I actually wanted the date asap, but Beeie insisted that we need time for preparation and stuff. I wanted a simple affair where both our immediate family will just have a meal together after the whole solemnisation. The perfect date as I mentioned before wasn't available in the end, so we decided to source for other dates. We also talked about my proposal ring and our wedding band. When I was 18, my requirement for a proposal ring was a 2carat diamond ring. When I got to know Beeie, my requirement was already at a 1carat diamond ring. I told Beeie that I wanted a D colour, brilliant cut, vs1 diamond ring in a 4 claw setting. Well, he told me he needed time as my decision was made quite last minute. People who know me will know that I must get what I want fast and good. So after all the discussion and stuff like that, we decided to start preparing for our ROM day.
